A Tasty Season

Summer is Here!

This is one of my favorite times of year, when the outdoors become alive with activity. In truth, I love all of the seasons for different reasons, but summer has its own special energy. School is out, the pools are open, day camp and resident camp have kicked-off, and summer is “officially” here on June 21^st. The wildlife is busy, too. Familiar animals like cottontail rabbits, birds, deer, and many others are raising their young. Here at Camp K-J, we have ducklings and goslings out at Becky’s pond that are growing like weeds. The weeds are growing too, along with all kinds of other plants,  which makes the insects very happy. They are busy pollinating, moving from flower to flower to move pollen around and fertilize plants.

ATC’s – A New Kind of SWAP

SWAPS (aka Potlatches) are a tradition in which Girl Scouts exchange keepsakes. This tradition started long ago when Girl Scouts and Girl Guides first gathered for fun, song, and making new friends. More recently, we describe the types of objects now preferred as SWAPS by calling them Special Whatchamacallits Affectionately Pinned Somewhere.

A Unique Sisterhood

In 1998, Girl Scouts of the USA launched a distinguished partnership with Kappa Delta Sorority to link Girl Scouts alumnae ages 18-29 with pre-teen and teen Girl Scouts. As Girl Scout mentors and volunteers, Kappa Delta collegians and alumnae are reinforcing our shared values of honesty, integrity, friendship, and girl leadership. Kappa Delta is the first and only national sorority to adopt the Girl Scouts as a national philanthropy.

Meet a Junior Counselor

Hi, my name is Tie-Dye. I am a junior counselor at resident camp this summer. Last year, as a counselor- in-training, I helped lead M.A.D.D. which stands for Music, Art, Dance, and Drama. I would like to share with you a little bit about the program and maybe it will encourage you to attend camp this summer.

Exhibit sparks memories of fun Girl Scout adventures

One of the fun, interactive things happening at the Historic Girl Scout Uniform and Memorabilia Exhibit at Campbell Hall on the OSU campus is the memory box.  Visitors are asked to jot down favorite memories of their time as a Girl Scout.  The Historic Preservation Committee took an inventory of the folded, handwritten cards at the end of March.  Of the cards completed by girls we found that 17 reported camping as their favorite activity, 11 loved horseback riding, eight had memories of COSI Camp-In and five listed cookies.

Too much gelato?

Eating.  I love it. Matter of fact, one of my favorite parts of going on vacation is eating out at restaurants. I recently came back from a trip feeling a little sluggish and I think all my sampling, tasting, and trying of new foods may be why. I mean, if there is gelato there, you have to sample all the flavors right?
